BNU becomes the first Macao bank to open in the Mainland with a branch in Zhuhai

The Macao-based bank Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU), a part of the Portuguese group Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), has opened its first branch in Mainland China, the Macauhub website reports.

“The BNU, through its connection to the CGD group, can support Macao enterprises to expand their business in the Portuguese-speaking Countries, to promote closer co-operation between Macao and Guangdong province and support Macao as a service platform for economic and trade co-operation with Portuguese-speaking Countries,” BNU’s chief executive Pedro Cardoso was quoted as saying.

The BNU branch, opened on Wednesday, is in the Hengqin Free Trade Zone in Zhuhai.

The bank is the first from Macao to open a branch in Mainland China, Mr Cardoso said.
