Bolsonaro says China welcome to invest in Brazil

The Brazilian president-elect, Jair Bolsonaro, has said China is welcome to invest in his country, and that Sino-Brazilian trade could grow, Reuters reports.

The news agency says Mr Bolsonaro met Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Li Jinzhang in Rio de Janeiro, and that the ambassador invited Mr Bolsonaro to visit China as soon as possible.

In a separate report, Xinhua quotes Mr Bolsonaro as telling Mr Li that his country attaches great importance to its relations with China and considers China a great co-operation partner.

The Chinese government-run news agency quotes Mr Li as saying China is willing to work with Brazil to promote the development of their partnership for their mutual benefit.

Mr Bolsonaro won the presidential election last month and will begin a four-year term as president on 1 January.
