Branch of Confucius Institute opens in São Tomé e Príncipe

A branch of the Confucius Institute, the agency that promotes Chinese culture around the world, has opened at the public university in São Tomé e Príncipe, STP-Press reports

The São Toméan news agency quotes São Toméan Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus as saying at the opening ceremony said the branch would enhance Sino-São Toméan relations.

Chinese Ambassador to São Tomé e Príncipe Wang Wei, the dean of the São Toméan public university, Peregrino Costa, and the dean of Hubei University in China, Xie Hongxing, also attended the opening ceremony, STP-Press says.

In a separate report, the Macauhub news website says the São Toméan branch of the Confucius Institute has been teaching courses in the Chinese language since April.
