Official data indicate that Brazil exported 19.91 million tonnes of iron ore to China last month, 2 percent more than a year earlier, S&P Global Platts reports.
The collector of information about commodity markets, citing figures given by the Brazilian Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, says the value of the iron ore exported to China last month was US$995 million, 24 percent more than the value of the ore exported a year earlier, the average price having risen to US$49.93 a tonne from US$40.84.
Altogether, Brazil exported 33.96 million tonnes of iron ore last month, S&P Global Platts says.
Reuters reported in October that demand in China for purer iron ore, such as that mined by Vale SA of Brazil, is increasing because of rules intended to curb pollution in China.
The news agency said restrictions on burning coal meant Chinese steel mills preferred purer iron ore because it required less coal to turn it into steel.
