The Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) says representatives of Brazilian universities have visited the institute to look into increasing exchanges and co-operation.

MPI issued a written statement identifying the visitors as an official of the Brazilian Ministry of Education, Geraldo Nunes Sobrinho, Brazilian Consul-General in Hong Kong and Macao Rafael Rodrigues Paulino, and 13 representatives of eight Brazilian universities.

The statement quotes Mr Paulino as saying his consulate supports Sino-Brazilian academic co-operation.

It quotes representatives of Brazilian universities as saying their institutions are willing to increase co-operation by Brazil and Macao in higher education.

Some 20 Brazilian students are studying for degrees at MPI, and the visit paves the way for more exchanges and co-operation by the institute and Brazilian universities, the MPI statement quotes MPI Vice-president Lei Ngan Lin as saying.
