Brazilian Consul General to Hong Kong and Macao visits Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao

The Consul-General of Brazil to Hong Kong and Macao, Mr Piragibe dos Santos Tarragô, visited the office of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), also known as Forum Macao. Brazil’s Representative at Forum Macao, Mr Rafael Rodrigues Paulino, accompanied Mr Santos Tarragô.

The Brazilian delegation had a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Ms Xu Yingzhen. The Deputy Secretary-General (appointed by the People’s Republic of China) Mr Ding Tian; Deputy Secretary-General (appointed by the Portuguese-speaking Countries) Mr Rodrigo Brum; and Deputy Secretary-General (appointed by the Macao SAR) Ms Glória Batalha Ung were also present at the meeting.

In greeting Mr Santos Tarragô, Ms Xu gave a brief presentation on the activities carried out by the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, namely in relation to trade and investment promotion between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. She highlighted Macao’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, especially in terms of education and culture.

Ms Xu also gave a brief presentation on the activities planned to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Forum Macao, aimed at promoting further cooperation in culture between China, the Portuguese-speaking Countries and Macao, including provinces and municipalities in Mainland China.

Mr Santos Tarragô thanked Ms Xu for her warm welcome and said the Brazilian Government attached great importance to Forum Macao, and would continue to support the work carried out by the Permanent Secretariat. The Brazilian Consul-General added he hoped all parties could continue to take advantage of the multilateral cooperation mechanism offered by Forum Macao and Macao’s role as a cooperation platform, in order further to boost economic, trade and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries.

During the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on the development of Forum Macao.
