The legislature in Brazil has held a ceremony to mark Chinese Immigration Day there, Xinhua reports.
The Chinese government-run news agency says Brazilian Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo attended the ceremony, held last Thursday, and remarked that the 300,000 or so people of Chinese origin in Brazil were a fundamental part of Brazilian society.
Mr Araújo said Brazil and China had important economic and technological ties.
“We rely on our partnership with China,” he said.
The report quotes Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Yang Wanming as saying Sino-Brazilian relations are strategically important and an invaluable asset for Chinese and Brazilians alike.
Chinese immigrants to Brazil prosper because they work hard and are embraced warmly by Brazilians, Xinhua quotes Mr Yang as saying.
