Brazilian president, Chinese minister urge more cooperation

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Chinese State Councillor and Defence Minister Wei Fenghe met on Saturday and agreed that their countries should cooperate more closely and more broadly, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says Mr Bolsonaro met in Brazilian capital Brasília with Mr Wei, who is on a four-day visit to the South American nation to attend the celebrations of 197th anniversary of Brazil’s independence.

The report quotes Mr Bolsonaro as saying he is looking forward to meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping in China next month.

It quotes Mr Wei as saying the Sino-Brazilian comprehensive strategic partnership and military ties have grown stronger.

China is willing to keep cooperating with Brazil in various fields and to forge more military links with Brazil, Xinhua quotes Mr Wei as saying.
