Brazilian president confirms he will visit China in 2019

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has confirmed that he will visit China this year at the invitation of Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Yang Wanming, Agência Brasil reports.

The news agency says Mr Bolsonaro confirmed his intention when he received Mr Yang’s credentials on Friday at the Planalto presidential palace in Brasília.

The report quotes the president as saying he probably visit China in the second half of this year.

It quotes Mr Bolsonaro as saying: “We want to get closer to the world – expand our business, our borders.”

It quotes Mr Yang as saying: “Reforms and changes in Brazilian economic and political institutions will bring more opportunities for business with China.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the meeting in Brazil of the heads of government of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, on a date yet to be set, Agência Brasil says, citing the Chinese ambassador.
