Brazilian shoemakers seek firmer foothold in China

The Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency says China is among the 7 main markets where members of the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association hope to sell more shoes between now and 2020.

A written statement issued by the agency says representatives of the agency and the shoemakers met during the International Leather and Footwear Exhibition in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul last week to decide which countries had the biggest potential for buying Brazilian shoes.

The statement says that, in Asia, the shoemakers will concentrate on selling more shoes in China, which already buys nearly 4 billion pairs a year, and on selling more in Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

The South Korean market is important in itself, and because of “its influence in China, especially through local celebrities, which paves the way for huge celebrity endorsement projects,” the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency says.
