Brazilian states are looking to China for investment to give their economies new impetus, at a time when the South American country’s public finances are in the red, Valor Económico reports.
The Brazilian newspaper says Governor Rui Costa of the northeastern state of Bahia went to Beijing on Monday to seek Chinese money for the West-East Integration Railway and for a new port in the city of Ilhéus.
The report says Economic Development Secretary César Miranda of the central state of Mato Grosso will be in Beijing this week in an effort to give a fillip to the meat and dairy businesses in Mato Grosso.
It says that next month officials of the northeastern state of Pernambuco are due in China for discussions with businesspeople there interested in the transport, mining and energy industries in the state.
In July the northeastern state of Alagoas will put on events in Beijing and Shanghai to advertise opportunities to invest in the solar power and sanitation businesses in Alagoas, Valor Económico says.
