Brazilian trade surplus grows to US$4.99 bln in March

Official figures indicate that the Brazilian monthly trade surplus grew by more than a third to US$4.99 billion last month from US$3.67 billion the month before in spite of strong rise in imports, Reuters reports.

The news agency, citing figures given by the Brazilian Economy Ministry, says the trade surplus was 22.3 percent smaller last month than a year earlier.

The value of imports rose to US$13.13 billion last month, 5.1 percent more than a year earlier, while the value of exports fell by 1 percent to US$18.12 billion.

Exports may reach US$245.9 billion this year and imports US$195.8 billion, giving Brazil an annual trade surplus of US$50.1 billion, the third-biggest in any year yet, Reuters quotes the foreign trade secretary at the Economy Ministry, Lucas Ferraz, as saying.
