Brazil’s solar power sector welcomes Chinese firms

Brazil’s solar power sector has welcomed the participation of Chinese firms in the industry, state-run news agency Xinhua reported this week.

The executive president of the Brazilian Solar Power Association (ABSOLAR), Rodrigo Sauaia, said – in an interview with Xinhua – there is a “clear trend” of establishment of Asian solar power companies in Brazil, mainly Chinese firms.

According to Mr Sauaia, Chinese companies are either setting up factories in Brazil or have plans to register there in order to take part in public bids for work.

The executive president of ABSOLAR stressed the outlook was good for growth in Brazil of his sector.

He mentioned in particular the sale of photovoltaics equipment that can convert the Sun’s energy into direct current electricity using semiconducting materials.

Mr Sauaia also noted it was a good time for foreign companies to invest in Brazil amid depreciation of the real against the U.S. dollar Xinhua added, mentioning the current exchange rate was around 3.80 reais per U.S. dollar.
