Cabo Verdean economic zone interests China Merchants Group

Cabo Verdean port authority ENAPOR says China Merchants Group is considering investing in the maritime special economic zone that Cabo Verde means to set up, with Chinese help, around the island of São Vicente.

The authority issued a written statement saying Jing Li, representative of the Chinese state-owned conglomerate in Togo, met this week with the zone’s coordinator José Correia and vice-coordinator Paulo Alexandre Lopes da Silva.

The meeting took place during a visit to ENAPOR’s headquarters in the city of Mindelo, in São Vicente.

In July the Cabo Verdean state-run news agency, Inforpress, quoted Cabo Verdean Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva as saying a law providing for the establishment of the maritime special economic zone would be passed soon.
