Cabo Verdean Q2 exports grow to 1.64 billion escudos

The value of Cabo Verdean exports rose to 1.64 billion escudos (about US$16.47 million) in the second quarter of this year, 10.8 percent more than a year earlier, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency, citing Cabo Verdean official figures, says second-quarter imports fell by 1.5 percent to 19.38 billion escudos, meaning the second-quarter trade deficit was 17.73 billion escudos.

The report says European countries bought 97.4 percent of Cabo Verdean exports in the second quarter, Spain alone buying 78 percent.

Prepared and preserved fish accounted for 63.1 percent of the value of the exports, other kinds of seafood accounted for 15.5 percent and clothes for 10.8 percent, the report says.

Portugal was the source of 41.6 percent of Cabo Verdean imports in the second quarter.
