Cape Verde ex-president to visit China

Pedro Pires, a former president of Cape Verde, will start a 10-day visit to China on July 1 to deepen bilateral relations, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported on Tuesday.

Indira Pires, executive director of the Pedro Pires Institute for Leadership (IPP), gave the news. She said the visit of the former national leader, including events in both Beijing and Macau, was also aimed at promoting co-operation between the public and private institutions of the two nations.

While in Beijing, Mr Pires will meet Chinese leaders, Cape Verde emigrants to China and local businessmen, as well as visiting Beijing Vocational College of Agriculture and Chinese technology firm Huawei, the news agency reported.

While in China, Mr Pires will also visit Macau. There he will meet local representatives and the Cape Verdean community, as well as giving a lecture on the Portuguese-speaking Countries.

His visit to China is promoted and organised by IPP; by the Cape Verde-China Friendship Association (AMICACHI); and by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; as well as the respective embassies of the two nations.
