Capital Airlines asks to start direct Xi’an-Lisbon service

Capital Airlines has asked the Civil Aviation Administration of China for permission to put on direct flights between Lisbon and the central Chinese city of Xi’an, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency says the Chinese airline intends to begin a twice-weekly return service in December, using Airbus A330 airliners, which can carry up to 440 passengers. Xi’an is one of the main tourist attractions in China.

The report says Capital Airlines will suspend on Monday its direct service between Lisbon and the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou via Beijing, which began in July last year.

The airline has managed to fill about 80 percent of the seats in the low season and over 95 percent in the peak season since its Hangzhou-Lisbon service began, Lusa says.
