Central bank still thinks Portuguese GDP will grow 2.3 pct in 2018

The Bank of Portugal is sticking to its forecasts that Portuguese gross domestic product will expand by 2.3 percent this year, 1.9 percent next year and 1.7 percent the year after, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency, citing the latest quarterly statement issued by the central bank, says the forecasts are the same as in the preceding quarterly statement.

The report says the Bank of Portugal bases its forecasts on signs of strong exports of goods and services, robust flows of investment and greater consumption by the private sector.

The Portuguese economy grew by 2.7 percent last year.

The central bank also forecasts that the Portuguese unemployment rate will fall to 5.6 percent in 2020 from 8.0 percent now, Xinhua says.
