China allows six-day stopovers in Beijing without visas

The Chinese authorities now permit the citizens of 53 countries passing through China on their way somewhere else to stop over in Beijing and its general vicinity for up to six days without a visa, the People’s Daily reports.

The Chinese Communist Party newspaper says travellers from the countries in question can already make six-day stopovers in Shanghai and round about without visas if they are just passing through.

The countries in question include most of the members of the European Union, including Portugal, along with Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand and the United States.
