China-Brazil trade showing steady growth: Chinese official

Bilateral trade between China and Brazil has seen “steady growth” in the past few years, said this week the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

The South American nation has also become the single largest source of China’s poultry and beef imports in the past two years, said Shen Danyang, a spokesman of the Ministry, as quoted by Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua.

In the first five months of 2016, China’s total imports from Brazil were up by 17.3 percent year-on-year. In the same period, China’s exports to Brazil declined judged year-on-year, the report added.

Brazil nonetheless remains China’s 10th-largest trading partner and also China’s single-biggest investment destination in Latin America, Mr Shen noted. Aggregate direct investment from Chinese firms into the Brazilian economy had reached US$3.88 billion by end of 2015, he added.
