China buys more Brazilian soybean than ever in May

Official data indicate that Brazil exported 9.76 million tonnes of soybean to China last month, the most in any month yet, AgriCensus reports.

The news agency, citing figures given by the Brazilian customs service, says China bought almost 80 percent of the soybean Brazil exported last month.

The report says analysts think the Brazilian soybean crop this year could be a record 119 million tonnes.

Chinese National Grain and Oil Information Centre data indicate that Chinese stocks of soybean were 8.18 million tonnes last week, the most ever, as Chinese buyers build up reserves in view of the Sino-US trade dispute, AgriCensus says.

In a separate report, Reuters says Chinese imports of soybean last month were the most since last July.
