China doubles monthly imports of Brazilian soybeans in April

China imported 5.79 million tonnes of soybeans from Brazil last month, having imported just 2.79 million tonnes the month before, Reuters reports.

The news agency, citing figures given by the Chinese customs service, says Brazil was the source of 75 percent of Chinese imports of soybeans last month.

The report says China imported 7.64 million tonnes of soybeans last month, 11 percent more than the month before, after the Chinese rate of value-added tax on agricultural products was reduced.

China imported 1.75 million tonnes of soybeans from the United States last month, 15.9 percent more than the month before, Reuters says.
