China extends credit worth US$15bln to Angola since 2004

Beijing has offered about 13.4 billion euros (US$15 billion) in finance to Luanda since 2004, according to the Angolan government.

The Angolan President’s Chief of Staff Manuel da Cruz Neto made the comment at the opening session of the Angola-China Investment Forum yesterday, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reports.

Mr Neto said Angola needed financial help from the Mainland to build and reconstruct roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and homes. He acknowledged the excellent relations and economic co-operation between Angola and China.

The director of Angola’s Technical Unit for Private Investment, Norberto Garcia, told the forum that many mainland Chinese investors wanted to establish factories in the Southern African nation.

He estimated that 450 entrepreneurs at the event would sign a number of deals worth US$1.3 billion by the end of the event, later today.
