China Hyway turns over rehabilitated Angolan railway

China Hyway Group Ltd has formally turned over to the operator the Moçâmedes Railroad in Angola, which it rehabilitated and extended, Angop reports.

The Angolan news agency quotes China Hyway President Liu Dai Wen as saying at the turnover ceremony that the railway will promote economic and industrial growth and bring development to places along its route.

The report says China Hyway rebuilt 967 km of the railway and extended it by 105 km to serve an area where iron ore is mined.

The company built or rebuilt 57 stations and installed a fibre optic telecommunications system along the length of the railway.

It started work on the railway in 2006 and finished it in 2012, Angop says.
