China’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Su Jian, held talks recently in the African nation’s capital, Maputo, regarding support for the industrialisation of that country.
Mr Su met representatives of the Confederation of Economic Associations to assess ways of implementing a programme known as “Co-operation for Productive Capacity”.
“We want Mozambique to have a very strong economy and this programme aims to create more jobs and train more Mozambican workers,” said Mr Su, quoted by local newspaper Notícias.
“China wants to contribute in order for Mozambique to have more infrastructure and a greater amount of professional training, as well as to help [Mozambique] find the most viable and diversified financial way for developing its economy,” he added.
The “Co-operation for Productive Capacity” programme gives priority to investment in the manufacturing sector, in tourism, fisheries, trade, and banking services, reported the Mozambican media outlet.
The President of the Confederation of Economic Associations, Rogério Manuel, said a delegation of 80 Chinese businesspeople was due to arrive in Maputo on June 24 for a business meeting, according to the report.
Mozambique’s President, Filipe Nyusi, paid his first official visit to China last month. During his stay, the two countries agreed to strengthen industrial co-operation, as well as to elevate their ties to the status of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
