China main exporter to Angola in 4Q 2015

China was the largest exporter to Angola in the final quarter of 2015, maintaining its lead on Portugal, said Portuguese news agency Lusa in a report last week.

Quoting figures from the Angolan National Institute of Statistics, the report said that nonetheless Angola’s total imports in the October-December period of 2015 dropped 34.5 percent from the previous year to 487.72 billion kwanzas (US$2.94 billion).

China – the world’s second-largest economy – was the top supplier to the African country in the fourth quarter, exporting to it goods worth 81.96 billion kwanzas. The tally represented 16.8 percent for Angola’s total imports.

Portugal was Angola’s second-biggest supplier, accounting for 16.3 percent, or 79.28 billion kwanzas, of the latter’s total imports, the report added.

Agricultural products and food products were the two largest types of import measured by value ordered by Angola during the fourth quarter, representing 19.2 percent of the total imports in that period.
