China pays to bring Cabo Verde public buildings online

A Chinese-financed project will connect about 300 public-sector facilities on the Cabo Verde island of Santiago to the Internet, or improve the connections they already have, Expresso das Ilhas reports.

The Cabo Verde newspaper says US$5 million of Chinese money will go toward ensuring reliable internet access for all high schools, hospitals and health centres, and for local and central government buildings on the island.

The report quotes a central government official, Hélder Veiga, as saying: “At the moment we are in the analysis stage, with support from a Chinese team visiting the country, which is going around to all institutions to be covered by the project.”

The necessary hardware is due to arrive Cabo Verde in August and be installed in September, Expresso das Ilhas quotes Mr Veiga as saying.
