China, Portugal to strengthen bilateral ties: Foreign Affairs Ministers

The respective Foreign Affairs Ministers of China and Portugal have pledged to enhance the already close ties between the two countries, Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

The two Ministers met on Friday on the sidelines of the 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit, held in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

“Sino-Portuguese relations have seen strong momentum, increasing mutual political trust and as a result, fruitful co-operation,” China’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Wang Yi, told his Portuguese counterpart, Augusto Santos Silva, as quoted by Xinhua.

Mr Wang was also quoted saying that China was willing to enhance further that mutual political trust, as well as to expand communication and co-operation, in order to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Portugal’s Foreign Affairs Minister said – as quoted by the media outlet – his country attached great importance to developing relations with China. Mr Santos Silva added Portugal was open to more investment from China, as well as to a greater number of cultural exchanges with the Asian nation. He said he hoped the two countries could work together to lift bilateral relations to a new, higher, level Xinhua added.
