China, Portuguese-speaking Countries debate teaching language

The Forum for Education and Culture between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries has worked to promote exchanges in the teaching of Portuguese and Chinese, China Radio International reports.

The forum was held on Monday at the University of International Business and Economy in Beijing. Participants included representatives from universities and diplomatic representatives from Portugal and East Timor.

China Radio says there are 33 Chinese universities offering Portuguese-language programmes to about 2,000 students. Among the Portuguese-speaking Countries, 20 tertiary institutions host a Confucius Institute or a Confucius Institute’s classroom.
