China, São Tomé and Príncipe strike four cooperation deals

Representatives of China and São Tomé and Príncipe have signed in Beijing four agreements to cooperate in agriculture, technology and cultural affairs, the China Daily reports.

The Chinese newspaper says Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and São Tomé and Príncipe Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada witnessed the signing. Mr Trovoada was in Beijing for the Sino-African summit meeting there this week.

The report quotes Mr Li was as saying China will keep supporting the efforts of São Tomé and Príncipe to uphold its sovereignty and economic independence, and to develop sustainably. Mr Li said China was willing to raise its partnership with São Tomé and Príncipe to new heights, the China Daily reported.

Separately, Xinhua reported that Mr Trovoada and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Beijing.

The Chinese government-run news agency quoted Mr Xi as saying cooperation by São Tomé and Príncipe and China has borne fruit since they resumed diplomatic relations in 2016.

São Tomé and Príncipe is willing to increase cooperation in economic and social affairs, Xinhua quoted Mr Trovoada as saying.
