Chinese state-owned electricity company China Three Gorges Corp. has made a formal bid worth €9.07 billion (US$10.83 billion) to take control of Portuguese utility Energias de Portugal SA (EDP), Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes the regulator of the Lisbon Stock Exchange, where EDP is listed, as saying the acquisition prospectus has been sent to EDP, and to the Portuguese and European regulators

China Three Gorges, which owns 23 percent of EDP, wishes to own 50 percent of the voting stock plus one share, Lusa says.

A previous report, by Reuters, quotes a written statement issued by China Three Gorges as saying it is “fully committed to preserving EDP’s Portuguese identity and autonomy as well as its current Portuguese public listing”.
