China to help bring digital television to Timor-Leste

China will help Timor-Leste introduce digital terrestrial television, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency says the Timor-Leste cabinet has given Secretary of State for Social Communication Merício Juvenal dos Reis, known as Akara, permission to sign a Sino-Timor-Leste agreement on the matter.

The report, citing a written statement issued by the cabinet, says the agreement will entail the installation in Dili and its vicinity of two digital broadcasting stations which will meet standards set by the International Telecommunication Union.

The statement contains no other details of the agreement, Lusa says.
