China top investor in Mozambique in 1H

China was the largest investor in Mozambique in the first half of 2016. Chinese investment accounted for more than half of total foreign direct investment in the African nation, said the country’s Investment Promotion Centre.

Mozambique attracted US$304 million in foreign direct investment in the first six months of 2016. Approximately US$154 million came from China, according to figures from the centre quoted by online news portal Macauhub.

Portugal was the fifth largest investor in Mozambique in the first half of 2016. Portuguese investment amounted to US$14 million in the January to June period, the report said.

Almost 80 percent of foreign investment approved by Mozambique’s Investment Promotion Centre was related to construction and public works, manufacturing, agriculture and agro-industry, the centre stated.
