China’s Exim Bank considers TV technology loan for Mozambique

The Export-Import Bank of China (also known as China Exim Bank) is considering a Mozambican Government request for a loan of up to US$156 million, Mozambican newspaper O País reported this week.

The loan would be used for speeding the introduction of digital technology in television broadcasting in the African nation, said Carlos Mesquita, the Mozambican Minister of Transport and Communications.

Chinese private media group StarTimes has already said it would invest US$30 million to provide digital equipment to Mozambique, the newspaper said.

Mr Mesquita said that some technicians from StarTimes had travelled to his nation to help the transition process from analogue broadcasting technology.
