Chinese Ambassador meets an East Timor political leader

China’s Ambassador to East Timor, Liu Hongyang, met with a leader of a political party in the archipelago last week to deepen the political trust between the two sides, the Embassy said in a statement.

In the meeting with Dionísio Babo Soares, Secretary-General of the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT), Mr Liu was quoted saying the Communist Party of China and the CNRT maintained friendly ties.

“We are willing to strengthen exchanges and co-operation with the CNRT, and enhance our mutual understanding and trust, in a bid to facilitate the relationship between the two parties and the two nations,” the Ambassador said.

Mr Soares was also quoted saying they would make every effort to take the relationship to the next level.

The CNRT is one of the major political parties in East Timor, founded by former president, Xanana Gusmão.
