Chinese among main foreign buyers of Portuguese housing

The Portuguese Real Estate Professionals and Brokers Association says 9 percent of Portuguese homes bought by foreigners last year were bought by Chinese, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes the association as saying French buyers bought 29 percent, Brazilians 19 percent and Britons 11 percent.

The report says foreigners bought about one-fifth of all homes sold in Portugal last year.

Lusa quotes the head of the association, Luís Lima, a saying the advent of the Donald Trump presidency made investors go looking for property to buy in countries other than the United States, such as Portugal.
