Angola’s national public electricity grid is to receive power from a cement factory controlled by China International Fund (CIF), Portuguese news agency Lusa reported.
According to a Presidential decree quoted by the media outlet, the factory, in the African country’s capital Luanda, will provide 50 megawatts (MW) of energy to the public grid.
The deal to be signed with CIF would be valid for 10 years, Lusa said. The decree did not mention how much would it cost to buy the electricity from the Chinese group’s plant, the media outlet added.
“Studies conducted to assess [the] offer and demand for electricity in Luanda’s region pointed to a deficit of 400 MW” until such time as restructuring projects in the power sector come into operation, said the order signed by the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, as quoted by Lusa.
According to the news outlet, the Angolan Government has launched a number of projects to enhance electricity production across the country, including the repairing of two dams.
