Chinese company aiming to build hotel on São Tomé

São Tomé e Príncipe Trade Promotion and Investment Agency Director Rafael Branco has said a Chinese company is seeking to build a US$30 million hotel in Lagoa Azul on the island of São Tomé, Téla Nón reports.

The São Tomé e Príncipe news website quotes Mr Branco as saying the tourism authority has given permission for the project.

Mr Branco said negotiations about the hotel began during an investment conference held in São Tomé e Príncipe this month to prompt economic engagement between China and the Portuguese-speaking world.

The report fails to identify the Chinese company.

The conference was a chance for São Tomé e Príncipe businesspeople to tout 30 other projects among representatives of foreign potential investors, most of them Chinese, and to start negotiations with them, Téla Nón quotes the official as saying.
