Chinese company gets US$210 mln Angolan hydro-electric plant rehabilitation job

Chinese company China Gezhouba Group Corp. has been awarded the contract to rehabilitate a dam and its associated hydro-electric power station in the Angolan province of Lunda Norte, with a view to enhancing the generating capacity, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency says

Angolan Minister of Energy and Water João Baptista Borges announced the award of the US$210 million contract when he visited the province last week.

The report says the work will be funded in part by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

The aim is to increase the capacity of the 58-year-old power station, on the Luachimo River, so it can supply electricity to more than 186,000 households, Lusa says.
