Chinese company to build fish farms in Angola

Sino Agro Food Inc. of China and Nortus Aquacultura e Pesca Lda of Angola have agreed to build fish farms in the Angolan provinces of Kwanza Sul and Kwanza Norte with money lent by China, Sino Agro Food has announced.

A written announcement quotes Rui Sancho of Nortus as saying the fish farms will be on arable land with freshwater springs in the municipalities of Porto Amboim and Cela in Kwanza Sul and Ambaca in Kwanza Norte.

Sino Agro Food says the goal is to produce 60,000 tonnes a year of fish and shellfish, mainly tilapia, African catfish and Malaysian tiger prawns, along with 150,000 tonnes a year of feed, as well as fruit and vegetables.

The project is in accordance the ambition of Angola to improve the diet of its own people and other Africans, and to export any surplus food it grows to other continents, the announcement quotes Mr Sancho as saying.
