Chinese consortium to build airport in Mozambique’s Gaza province

A Chinese consortium will build a new airport for Mozambique’s Gaza province, reported online news portal Macauhub, quoting the Mozambican newspaper Notícias.

The consortium is formed by Chinese company Anhui Foreign Economic Construction (Group) Co Ltd, and Chinese-backed Mozambican company Sogecoa (Moçambique) Lda, the report said.

The new infrastructure is expected to cost US$50 million, according to the Mozambican media outlet, which cited figures revealed at a meeting organised by Mozambique’s Ministry of Transport and Communication. It was held in the African nation’s capital, Maputo.

Ministry officials were quoted as having said in the meeting that the construction of the airport was a strategic priority. It would help to promote tourism and boost Gaza province’s economic development, they added, as quoted by the newspaper.
