Chinese demand breaks Brazilian soybean sales record in 2018

Official data indicate that Brazil sold 83.8 million tonnes of soybeans around the world last year, 23.1 percent more than the year before and the most in any year yet, Reuters reports.

The news agency, citing figures compiled the Brazilian government, says the main market for Brazilian soybeans last year was China.

The report says China and the United States are engaged in a trade war which has hampered the ability of US exporters of soybeans to compete with their Brazilian rivals.

Demand in the United States and Germany meant Brazil exported 30.4 million 60 kg bags of coffee last year, 10.7 more than the previous year before, Reuters says.
