Chinese electric garbage truck makes world debut in Brazil

A Chinese-made refuse collection truck propelled purely by electricity has been put to work for the first time in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says rubbish collection company Clean Ambiental uses a eT8A truck, made by BYD Auto Co. Ltd, to remove waste from a big market in Rio.

The report quotes Clean Ambiental Director Jose Eduardo Almeida as expressing enthusiasm for a future built solely on the sustainable use energy.

It quotes a BYD Auto executive, Carlos Roma,  as saying the eT8A leads the way for electric vehicles in Brazil.

Clean Ambiental is now negotiating the purchase of another 10 electric vehicles from BYD to replace some of its fleet of 60 or so diesel trucks, Xinhua says.
