The Chinese Embassy in Mozambique donated items to the Mozambique Government on Wednesday, to help hundreds of families affected by flooding earlier this year, official news agency Xinhua reported.
“This donation is another evidence of the friendship and co-operation between the two nations,” said Su Jian, Chinese Ambassador to the African country.
The Embassy gave construction materials to the Mozambique Government. They are to be used to help families that were evacuated from their homes and are now living in temporary shelters.
Casimiro Abreu, Deputy General Director of the Mozambican Institute for Natural Disasters Management, said: “Up to this moment, we have created about 50 neighbourhoods of temporary shelters. The families live in areas of high vulnerability, and the donations will be given to those people.”
Spring rains and floods hit Mozambique hard earlier this year, causing the death of at least 150 people and forcing more than 250,000 people to leave their homes, news agency Reuters reported at the time.
