Chinese firm awarded US$137-mln social housing project in Angola

The Government of Angola has awarded a US$137.3-million contract – for the building of social housing in Luanda, the country’s capital – to a subsidiary of a Chinese state-run firm, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported.

Citing a presidential order, the report said China Gezhouba Group Co – a developer based in China’s Hubei province – would build 3,000 social housing units in the Sambizanga district.

The authorities also granted a US$4.1-million contract to an Angolan firm to oversee the construction works.

Lusa reported earlier this month that the Government of Angola had awarded 54 projects worth a total of US$3.16 billion to Chinese firms in the past few weeks under a US$5.2-billion credit line provided by China to Angola.
