A subsidiary of Chinese state-run firm China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group won a US$90-million contract to link 45,000 Angolan households to the electricity grid, local newspaper O País reported this week.
The 45,000 homes are located in the western province of Benguela, the report said.
It is one of the projects under a new US$5.2-billion credit line provided by China to Angola for funding a total of 155 development projects in the African country.
Portuguese news agency Lusa reported last week that the Angolan authorities had approved so far under the new credit line a total of 27 projects from Chinese companies. The schemes cover electrification, road repair and construction of water supply networks, and amount in value to US$1.39 billion, the report added. Among those projects, China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group won a US$45-million contract for the electrification of 22,500 households in Huila province.
