The Angola Government has awarded 24 projects worth US$1.27 billion to Chinese companies under a new credit line provided by China, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported on Monday.
The presidential orders – dated June 7 and June 8 – show the new projects include the modernisation of an airport, the construction of a provincial government administrative centre and the repair of roads in several provinces of the African nation.
Earlier this month Lusa reported that the Angolan authorities had already awarded 30 projects – worth a total of approximately US$1.90 billion – to Chinese firms under the new Chinese credit line. Those schemes are for the construction of electricity transmission lines, water supply networks and for road repairs.
China had agreed earlier this year to offer Angola a US$5.2-billion credit line to fund 155 development projects in the African nation; creating approximately 365,000 jobs, the news agency said. Following the latest adjudications, the Angolan Government has so far awarded 54 projects worth a total of US$3.16 billion to Chinese firms under the new credit line.
