Chinese medical missions to Timor Leste have attended to over 300,000 patients there since the first such mission, sent in 2004, the People’s Daily reports.
The Chinese Communist Party newspaper says the latest medical mission, the eighth, arrived in Timor Leste in April to help the country develop its healthcare capability.
The report says the missions have helped train Timorese healthcare professionals, and have given their country over US$1 million worth of medical supplies and equipment.
Chinese doctors are sincere friends of the Timorese and China has been playing an important role in the development of the Southeast Asian nation, the People’s Daily quotes a former president of Timor Leste, José Ramos-Horta, as saying.
