Chinese money to pay for infrastructure in Angolan city

Money borrowed from China will finance the construction of infrastructure in the central Angolan city of Sumbe, the Angolan government says.

An official written announcement quotes Construction and Public Works Minister Manuel Tavares as saying the money will be drawn from a new line of credit.

Mr Tavares said contractors had been invited to bid to complete the governor’s palace in Sumbe, capital of Cuanza Sul Province.

He said construction of roads from Sumbe to Luanda and Benguela would resume soon.

China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group Co. Ltd is due to finish a road between Maria Teresa and Dondo early next year, the announcement quotes Mr Tavares as saying.

The Angolan news agency, Angop, reported this month that the China Development Bank will give Angola a new, US$2 billion line of credit.
