Chinese studies centre opens at Brazilian University

A Chinese studies centre has opened at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says Unicamp and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) jointly established the Chinese studies centre, the first set up by the academy in Latin America.

The report quotes Li Peilin, member of CASS, as saying he hopes the facility will institutionalise Sino-Brazilian academic co-operation, and that such co-operation will expand beyond the social sciences.

Academic co-operation and exchanges can bridge the geographical and cultural distance between China and Brazil, Xinhua quotes Unicamp Rector Marcelo Knobel as saying.
